A young, classically trained multi-instrumentalist named Rey Villalobos wandered down from Portland Oregon a few years ago to his native Southern California to help his sister Gina Villalobos record her album, after finishing he began to wander again. He recorded his own poetic solo record titled Rey Means King. Soon after he called his old friend from London England, lead guitar player Duncan Wright, whose eclecticism, and British musical make-up meshed well with his own aesthetic, the vision for The Coral Sea fell into place.

Chicagoan drummer Matthew Talmage manifested, as did Bakersfieldís bass player James Garza. For the next year, the four artists were studio-bound, creating music, emerging only to perform magical shows. They recruited a classical string quartet, appearing at art museums and art openings, in factories, coffee houses, anywhere, but away from other bands and clubs, incubating their own aesthetic away from the rock-world. The sound is mystical but memorable, ascendant but sexy atmospheric but driving. The Coral Sea is born.
